"Guadalupe Aguilera / Laguna Seca"

Akvarijske ribe, Characodon Audax, živorodke

Cultivation

We grow it in an aquarium full of plants and branched roots, many hiding places.

Good filtration and poor water flow. The aquarium should be intended only for him, he can be aggressive towards other fish.

Keep 6 or more fish in the school, thus helping to reduce aggression between individual fish (males). It is better to have more males than just two, as the aggression is divided into more fish and the pressure on the individual male is reduced.

Growing at room temperature is enough for them. For successful cultivation, the temperature should never exceed 24 ° C, and regular water changes are necessary (even up to 40/50% per week)

Food

Fish is an omnivore. We feed it with frozen, lyophilized or fresh food of animal and plant origin.

Reproduction

The mother fish are placed in a large, very overgrown aquarium with many hiding places and caves, and a dark, fine substrate at the bottom. At room temperature in favorable conditions, the female lays young that sink to the ground among the stones and plants where they rest for a day and only then abruptly float. They eat flakes and live food right away. Winter cooling of the water is also recommended here, as observations have shown that after cooling, the level of pups is the highest. Puppies are sexually mature after four months, growth is slow, the sexes can be separated after six weeks. Puppies are raised separately and after a month they can be released into the company of adults.

Interesting

This species does not store sperm like most live births. Trophothenia performs a similar function as the placenta in mammals, in newly hatched pups we can observe the remains of the "umbilical cord", which soon disappears. In the wild, the species is virtually extinct. In December 2011, the GWG (Goodeid Working Group) decided to create a project called “Christmas Characodon” to evaluate Characodon populations and strive to preserve all existing populations and habitats. The species was named after its aggressiveness - audax (bold / daring) translated from Latin.

Today we know several different populations  Characodon audax differing in color and location: "El Toboso", "Abraham Gonzales", "Guadalupe Aguilera / Laguna Seca", "Los Pinos", "Puente Pino Suarez"), the fish are anything from black, red, orange, yellow to silver.
