Biotope Aquarium - Otamiri River - Nigeria. The 105 km long river contains at least 79 species of fish

The decision was made to set up a slightly larger aquarium for a slightly larger and slightly different West African fish. The tranquil area at the confluence of the Ogochia River with the Otamiri, north of Port Harcourt and west of the town of Nini, is located in a tropical forest that is fortunately still preserved. The bottom is sandy, consisting of various sandstones and clay shales. The temperature is constant throughout the year, around 27 degrees. At the bottom is a lot of organic matter in the form of fallen trees, branches and leaves. The water is soft and slightly acidic. The color of the water changes according to the season or. it changes depending on the rainy or dry period. Lots of riparian vegetation.

Making an aquarium

The

It started in August 2017. The aquarium is placed between the dining room on the upper floor and the living room which lies a little lower. The space is 320 cm in length and 75 cm in height, according to calculations, the final size of the glass container will be 305 * 60 * 58. The aquarium will be placed on a massive wooden pedestal, closed from behind, and above it a wooden board that will serve as a work table - a dining table.

The aquarium successfully passed the test, the water holds ..... juhuuu.

It was necessary to get the base, stones, roots and much more.

The sand has a granulation of 0.2-3 light brown shades, non-carbonate sand without sharp edges, 80 kilograms.

Technique

The

I have devoted a lot of time to technical solutions and I can say that I am satisfied with the result.

I started from the basic idea of preparing the whole system in such a way as to keep the conditions in the aquarium as stable as possible and so stress-free for organisms - to which I place great emphasis. Personally, I think that changing large amounts of water is stressful for all organisms (fish, snails, plants, bacteria, ...)
